The fitness franchising juggernaut shows no sign of stopping, as it flies past a notable milestone.
Planet Fitness has cemented itself as a strong competitor in the fitness franchising landscape, and 2019 saw the brand sign several agreements to bring the concept to entirely new markets. In light of all this, Planet Fitness has yet another milestone to celebrate: the opening of its 2,000th gym.
Opened on December 31, 2019, in Colorado Springs, the new gym marks yet another “Judgement Free Zone” that Planet Fitness can add to its healthy portfolio. This new site was joined by the brand’s 2001st gym, also opened on December 31, which brought the brand’s new openings in 2019 to a record-setting total of 261.
“2019 has been a milestone year of growth for us, with more Planet Fitness locations opened than in any year in our history, and I believe we are just getting started,” said Chris Rondeau, CEO. “Beyond our own benchmarks for success, when compared to the industry, our growth is incredible and we continue to see an opportunity to double our domestic store count over time and bring fitness to even more people’s backyards.”
Planet Fitness currently has locations spread across the U.S., Puerto Rico, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Panama, and Mexico – as well as Australia, which the brand added to its portfolio late last year, as part of an area development agreement with Bravo Fit Holdings Pty Ltd. A minimum of 35 new gyms will open as part of this agreement, with openings starting in 2020.
Rondeau continued: “This milestone wouldn’t be possible without the passion and determination of our experienced franchisees, who are bullish on aggressive, thoughtful expansion in both new and existing markets. I am excited about the growth opportunities that lie ahead, and together we continue to fulfill our shared mission of bringing non-intimidating, affordable, and accessible fitness to all.”
