In partnership with two Calgary natives, the sandwich franchise will open in Alberta in 2021.
Jon Smith Subs, the sandwich franchisor renowned for its lovingly over-stuffed menu items, will soon open in Alberta, Canada, as the brand begins Canadian expansion, RestaurantNews.com reports.
The sandwich brand, which currently has more than 20 locations open and a further 38 sites in development domestically and internationally, has signed a master franchise agreement with Gurbinder Singh and Amrinder Cheema, who will be selling franchises throughout the province of Alberta.
Singh comes from a background in IT and business, while Cheema is an expert in operations. Collectively, the pair have a family history of restaurant development.
“We are very pleased to have chosen the Jon Smith Subs brand to launch in Calgary,” said Singh. “With a focus on fresh off the grill premium subs, we feel that Albertans will be delighted when we launch our first location,” said Cheema.
Founded in Florida in 1988, Jon Smith Subs has become something of a cult favorite, with items like the Steak Bomb and its large portion of marinated sirloin steak, grilled onions, peppers, mushrooms, bacon, tomatoes, and provolone cheese tantalizing the tastebuds of long-time fans. The new master franchisees expect this popularity will continue as the brand enters the Great White North.
“We are thrilled to partner with Gurbinder Singh and Amrinder Cheema, our master franchisees for Alberta,” said Jim Butler, president of Jon Smith Subs Franchising, LLC. “Our guests consistently tell us they enjoy our delicious subs and made-to-order fries while being served in a friendly, comfortable environment. We really emphasize local flavors and Alberta will be no exception as we focus on delivering a hospitality first guest experience, which is contributing to the ongoing rapid growth of our brand in Canada and on a global scale.”
