The Global Franchise Podcast passes 10,000 downloads

With an impressive back catalog of exclusive industry interviews, the series is poised to go from strength to strength

With an impressive back catalog of exclusive industry interviews, the series is poised to go from strength to strength.

Global Franchise is very excited to announce that its popular podcast series, the Global Franchise Podcast, has passed 10,000 downloads.

This figure comes off the back of numerous, exclusive interviews with the biggest names in franchising; with recent episodes including Jon Taffer of Taffer’s Tavern, Jon Cottam of Lift Brands, and Ray Titus of United Franchise Group.

The podcast series launched in September 2019, and has since grown with an audience of dedicated franchisees, franchisors, and industry insiders. Each week, the Global Franchise Podcast brings listeners in-depth discussions with franchising’s biggest brands, as well as hand-picked experts to help entrepreneurs navigate the challenges that come with business ownership.

To celebrate this milestone, several of the individuals behind Global Franchise and What Franchise have recommended their favorite episode, which you can check out today by visiting globalfranchisemagazine.com/podcast.

Christopher Phin, head of podcasts, DC Thomson & Co. Ltd.

Episode One

“The Global Franchise Podcast has evolved a great deal since the very first episode, not just with innovations like Multi-Unit Month, a world-class roster of guests, and indeed a different host, but I’ll always have huge fondness for episode one.

“This was one of the first podcasts DC Thomson Media made, and it was huge, huge fun working with James and Amanda in conference rooms in Colchester to structure and assemble a show with an eye to creating a compelling, long-running series that shares some of franchising’s most powerful stories and most useful learnings.

“It’s been a joy to train the team to be completely self-sufficient in production, and I can enjoy the show as a listener now rather than as a producer! And I recommend anyone in franchising should listen to every episode – all the way back to episode one!”

James Fell, head of content (Franchising), Aceville

Capturing the soul of a brand, with Jon Taffer of Taffer’s Tavern

“As Bar Rescue or his other TV shows aren’t really easily available in the U.K., us Brits aren’t overly familiar with Jon Taffer’s public profile nor his body of work. In fact, upon organizing our podcast interview with Jon, my impression of him was framed primarily by the punchy, hyperbolic, and brash soundbites on YouTube, which usually involves Jon reducing some poor business owners to tears. However, that’s the show business side of the Taffer brand – and one we were more than happy to accommodate on our podcast – but the Jon Taffer who joined us for his episode was different.

“Highly opinionated and charismatic, of course, but also an absolute font of leadership knowledge, erudite and deeply thoughtful, with the discussion covering topics like the labor shortage debacle and how tech and robots will soon be replacing chefs, Taffer was on top of his game and provided our audience with plenty of brilliant business advice. Naturally, we also got a huge amount of soundbites from the episode, too.”

Why franchises could fail internationally, with Natalie Brennan of Muffin Break

“Given that we were in the middle of the pandemic and the U.K. was on its third lockdown, it was refreshing to see Natalie’s candor about the brand and the market as a whole. She painted a brutally honest picture of how the brand was faring in the U.K. versus Australia.”

Kieran McLoone, deputy editor and podcast host, Global Franchise

Making eSport franchising accessible, with Jay Melamed of XP League

“I’ve always been a massive nerd, and so having the chance to speak with the founder of an eSport franchise brand was an exciting prospect from the get-go. XP League’s growth and development just a few short months after its founding were nothing short of impressive, but it was the approachable and informative candor of Jay, the brand’s founder, that really made this installment stick out for me.”

Jeff James, editor, What Franchise

The time is now to invest in flexible workspace franchises, with Andrea Pirrotti-Dranchak of Office Evolution

“Among my favorites of late was the episode with Andrea Pirrotti-Dranchak of Office Evolution, the flexible workspace provider. She gave listeners a compelling insight into the sector, how, why and where demand is growing, plus her take on the future of hybrid working and the exciting investment opportunities available.”
