Prioritizing convenience, Dunkin’ is expanding in universities, airports and travel plazas.
In 2021, Dunkin’ has grown in non-traditional locations such as the Las Vegas Convention Center, the new Virgin Hotel, Arizona’s Charlie Boulder Casino and the LINQ Hotel. The coffee chain has also opened across 12 Great Wolf Resorts and debuted locations in hospitals including Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville, Florida, and UMass Memorial Medical Center in Massachusetts.
Dunkin’ plans to grow into even more non-traditional locations with new units slated for terminal 5 of Chicago’s O’Hare airport and terminal 1 of New York’s JFK airport.
“Dunkin’ continues to modernize with convenience at the forefront. Our flexible concepts for any non-traditional format have been an essential aspect of our growth over the past decade and will remain a vital part of our future development strategy,” said Chris Burr, director of non-traditional development at Inspire Brands.
“As a new member of the Inspire family of brands, Dunkin’s strong experience in non-traditional development complements inspire’s vision for non-traditional growth across the portfolio, bringing valuable expertise to our best-in-class shared development team.”
Through the use of its in-store technology and platforms, Dunkin’ plans for each location to tailor itself to local needs and capture new guests.
In 2020, Dunkin’ was able to open 27 non-traditional locations. Dunkin’ locations were introduced to a number of airports, including Boston, New York, San Antonio and St.Petersburg-Clearwater.
The brand also opened a number of retail restaurants in malls such as The Mall of America, American Dream, a Shop Rite supermarket in New York and even Air Force bases in Mexico and Utah. Two further locations were opened on the campuses of the University of Maryland and the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth.
Dunkin’s aggressive push for the development of non-traditional locations was supercharged last year as a response to the pandemic, with a desire to serve as many customers as possible with safe and sanitary processes.
