7-Eleven debuts its first store in India

The convenience retail brand will open in the Andheri East suburb of Mumbai

The convenience retail brand will open in the Andheri East suburb of Mumbai.

7-Eleven is planning to open its first location in India, in the city of Mumbai on Saturday, October 9, 2021. The new Indian unit will be opened by 7-India Convenience Retail Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Retail Ventures Limited (RRVL).

The store is located on the first floor of the Atul Blue Fortuna apartments on Military Road in the Marol neighborhood of the Andheri East suburb in Mumbai. Andheri is home to multiple rail stations, an international airport and is the country’s Bollywood cinema hub. The brand plans to open more stores across the Greater Mumbai area later this year.

As India’s financial and entertainment hub, Mumbai represents the ideal location for the country’s first 7-Eleven. Mumbai is also home to Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), the largest publicly traded company in India. Through its subsidiary, RRVL, Reliance holds the master franchise agreement to open and operate 7-Eleven stores across Greater Mumbai.

“At Reliance, we pride ourselves on offering up the best to our customers and we are proud to bring 7-Eleven, the globally trusted convenience store, to India,” said director of Reliance Ventures Limited Isha Ambani.

“7-Eleven is among the most iconic global brands in the convenience retail landscape. The new pathways we build together with 7-Eleven will offer Indian customers greater convenience and choices within their own neighborhoods.”

Alongside its typical product offering, 7-Eleven will offer a number of foods catered to local tastes in its store.

“India is the second-largest country in the world and has one of the fastest-growing economies. It’s an ideal time for the largest convenience retailer in the world to make our entry into India,” said 7-Eleven, Inc. president and chief executive officer Joe DePinto.

“Our strategic relationship with Reliance Retail will bring 7-Eleven’s brand of convenient products and services to millions of Indian consumers starting in the city of Mumbai.”

This marks 7-Eleven’s second international expansion in the space of 2 months with a new location in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
