Australia has passed the Fair Work Amendment (Protecting Vulnerable Workers) Bill, assigning some responsibility to franchisors for the conduct of their franchisees. The legislation places significant additional responsibility on franchisors for the employment practices of their franchisees and franchisors will now be directly liable for non-compliance within their network. Any franchisor that was betting on the legislation not eventuating or hoping the FCA could water down the impact was sorely mistaken.
