The cult burger franchise is exploring the Aussie market with some upcoming Sydney locations.
Five Guys, the international burger brand with over 1,500 locations in a wide selection of markets, will soon be available in Sydney, Australia, in partnership with local master franchisee, Seagrass Boutique Hospitality; the group behind popular Aussie brands such as The Meat & Wine Co, and Hunter & Barrel. This development was first reported by Good Food, and has since been confirmed by Seagrass.
The first Australian opening is scheduled for early 2021 in Sydney, and will allegedly be followed by further developments in Melbourne and Brisbane. The master franchise rights agreed with Seagrass Boutique Hospitality extend to New Zealand, too, so Kiwi expansion could be on the horizon.
“We feel confident in the Seagrass partnership because of the strong operational capabilities and our joint focus on high-quality food and customer service,” said Sam Chamberlain, COO at Five Guys. “We know we can teach just about anyone how to do burgers and fries the Five Guys way, but it is harder to teach our core values. Thankfully, Seagrass, with its dedication to people and excellence, will have no problem executing the Five Guys brand.”
Founded in 1986, Five Guys currently operates in the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, and throughout Asia. The plan for Australian growth currently includes 20 stores nationwide, according to David Ovens, chief marketing officer for Seagrass Boutique Hospitality, speaking with news.com.au.
“We are currently looking for the best sites in Sydney’s CBD and welcome inquiries from agents,” said Ovens. “Our aim is to identify high-visibility, ground-floor sites in high-traffic areas. We believe Australia will embrace Five Guys given the quality, value, and authenticity of the brand.”
