Popeyes announced yesterday an exclusive development agreement with Sterling Cruise to grow the Popeyes brand throughout Romania, with plans to open 90 restaurants in the next 10 years. The first Popeyes location is slated to open in early 2022.
“We’re excited to share big news from Romania, where we have announced ambitious plans to bring the country one of the globe’s most popular fried chicken restaurants,” said David Shear, President, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, international markets.
“Popeyes is one of the fastest-growing restaurant brands in the U.S. Our entry into Romania illustrates our commitment to serving our signature blend of spices, flavors and experience to more guests around the world.”
Popeyes has made a significant foray into Europe, with units already built in Spain and Switzerland alongside a planned opening in the U.K.

“In addition, this new market entry will contribute to the Romanian economy by creating hundreds of new jobs over the coming years. We couldn’t be more excited.”
The brand will bring over its suite of digital tools to facilitate a better customer experience. Popeyes locations in Romania will feature digital ordering screens, mobile ordering, table service and delivery.
This recent announcement follows on from the news that the brand will partner up with rapper Meg Thee Stallion.
