Wingstop, the aviation-themed restaurant concept, has announced its expansion into Spain with the imminent opening of four ghost kitchens in the city of Madrid. The first two kitchens are scheduled to open on 31 March 2022, with the third scheduled to open in early April, and the fourth in summer.
The ghost kitchens will be used to create a delivery-only model to reach the brand’s fans across Madrid. Spain is seen as a key target market for expansion for Wingstop. In time, the brand is expected to roll out franchise opportunities for the more traditional brick-and-mortar stores.
“We are excited to bring the flavor of Wingstop to Spain initially leveraging a delivery-only method. By embracing our entrepreneurial spirit, in just 12 weeks from planning to execution, we’re getting Wingstop in front of consumers in Madrid” said Lisa Paton, vice president EMEA at Wingstop.
Wingstop is an ambitious brand, and believes it can operate 7,000 locations worldwide, of which 3,000 are expected to be outside the U.S.
The EMEA region is one of particular significance to the brand, with more expansion into the Middle East and Western Europe expected in time. The brand will also focus on countries it has already successfully launched in, such as the U.K.
In the last two years, Wingstop managed to open 16 new restaurants in the U.K. and won Deliveroo’s Restaurant of the Year award and enjoys higher average unit volumes than U.S. locations.
