Shipley Do-Nuts signs agreement for 20 locations in Texas

The donut specialist signed a 20-unit agreement with two experienced local multi-unit operators

Shipley Do-Nuts, the makers of gourmet, fresh donuts, has announced the signing of a 20-unit franchise agreement with two experienced multi-unit operators in North and South Texas.

The brand signed with Mohammed Ahmed, a multi-brand franchisee who owns a sizeable 95 Jack in the Box locations across Texas, as well as a few Denny’s, Church’s Chicken and Mr. Gatti’s Pizza locations. Ahmed’s first Shipley Do-Nuts unit will open in Weslaco in Spring 2022.

“As a 35-year resident of Houston, I’ve been a longtime fan of Shipley Do-Nuts – they are the only do-nuts my family and I like – and I’ve been impressed at the company’s growth over the past year with the new ownership group and leadership team,” said Ahmed.

“I want to be part of this company’s success. Adding Shipley to my brand portfolio will strengthen the morning daypart across my business with a high-quality, craveable product that is superior to other do-nut brands.”

Shipley will expand in North Texas with Houston restaurateur, Sam Khader, who is upping his current development deal to 15 from the original six. He will open his first Shipley location in North Dallas near Addison in June. Further to this location, he will also open units in Corsicana, Ennis, Mesquite, Forney, Greenville and Terrell.

“Like so many Houstonians, I grew up eating Shipley Do-Nuts with my family every Sunday, and when I moved to Dallas, I wanted to continue that tradition with my son,” said Khader.

“Shipley presents a great opportunity personally and from a business perspective, especially with the company’s new leadership that is focused on growth, franchisee success and guest experience. I look forward to bringing my love for Shipley to new generations of North Texans.”

Khader was in the process of finalizing his deal with Shipley when the brand announced that the Dallas Fort-Worth (DFW) area had been sold out. In total, there are now 45 new locations planned for DFW and North Texas.

“Shipley’s unprecedented growth is being fueled by experienced multiunit operators like Mohammed and Sam who see the brand’s phenomenal potential,” said Clifton Rutledge, CEO of Shipley Do-Nuts.

“Our strategy has been to continue building out our home markets in Texas, where fans know and love us, while also working to bring ‘The World’s Greatest Do-Nut’ to new markets like Maryland, South Carolina, Georgia and beyond.”
